Hymn 287

VERSE 1
Worthy Thou art of all praises
The mighty king of love Thou art.
By love Thou calls us from perils
In Thy kingdom, we are glad.

VERSE 2
Teach us, O! Lord, to love in truth,
As Thou O! Father hath love us;
Love is the greatest of Thy rules;
Love art Thou and Thou art love.

VERSE 3
Love does no wrong to his neighbour,
There is no resentment in love,
Backbites not or hates his neighbour,
Love is God, and God is love.

VERSE 4
Though with tongues of angels I speak
And of men, when I have no love,
All is nothing, It’s love I need;
All that is love comes from God.

VERSE 5
Even if I bestow my wealth
To feed the poor, my body burnt,
It profiteth me nothing still,
If love, I do not possess.

VERSE 6
Love is always patient and kind;
Love is never boastful nor rude;
Love is not easily provoked;
Love is God and God is love.
