Hymn 286

VERSE 1
Children of this new kingdom, Jehovah in His wisdom
To you all His elects, saith; “Ye are the salt of the earth
Let your taste proved be sweet, lest be trodden under foot
Should the salt its savour lose, ‘tis good for nought but refuse”.

VERSE 2
Men do not a candle light, then under a bushel hide
But place on a candle stick, that all around its light pick
In such a posture found, with a radiancy profound
Lo! ye children of the light, trim your light before men bright.

VERSE 3
Let thy good on earth be seen, that your Father in heaven
By men may be glorified and His wonders testified
Though ill winds at thee blow, in the darkest corner glow
Brilliantly in truth and love, like the glittering stars above.

VERSE 4
The light of the world ye are, seen like the heavenly stars
Lo! a city built on hill cannot hide but exposed still
To all be fair and free, like our Saviour on the tree
Living in sincerity, right unto eternity.
