Hymn 597

VERSE 1
As shepherds watched their flock by night,
The glory of God shone around;
"Fear not, I bring you good tidings;"
Declared by angel from on high.

VERSE 2
Great news of joy to you and all,
A king is born this day to you,
A Saviour who is Christ the Lord,
The city of David’s the Scene.

VERSE 3
The multitude of hea’enly hosts
To God, the songs of praise they sang
Then earth echoed their strains of joy
At the birth of the Lord of hosts.

VERSE 4
The child in a manger was laid
Wrapped in a clean, white, swaddling cloth
In a stable in Bethlehem
Shepherds saw and confirmed His birth.

VERSE 5
To God be the glory on high,
And on earth, peace, goodwill to men,
To them, whom the Lord is well pleased
Sing hosanna, the Lord is born.

Amen
