Hymn 632

VERSE 1
These are the seven sacred words on the cross
On the day when He was crucified
As they jeered and tormented the Lord
Who died for us.

VERSE 2
He knew His work of redemption was fulfilled
Came to pass as long was prophesied
As He to the brutal guards announced
I am athirst.

VERSE 3
O! Father why has Thou now forsaken me,
Why has Thou really forsaken me?
This He cried Eli, Eli, lama
Sabach thani.

VERSE 4
Forgive them Father, they know not what they do,
Had they known would not me crucify
It’s finished and gently bowed His Head
And gave up Ghost.

VERSE 5
Finally the Lord cried out in loudest tone
And made the last plea to His Father
In Thy hands O! My Lord I commend
My Spirit all.
