VERSE 1
Lift thy eyes to the awful tree
On which Christ was crucified
He was nailed unto the tree
He died because of our great sins

VERSE 2
On Lord Jesus the Jews did spit
And gave vinegar to Him
Jesus bore the Cross of shame
That He did for the sinners sake

VERSE 3
With a spear the Jew pierced His side
What a love, He had for all
Jesus Christ now high in fame
Died on the cross, the cross of shame

VERSE 4
Thorny was the crown that He wore
On Him the Jews forced the cross
For the sinful men He bore
What a precious blood from our Lord

VERSE 5
O! what a great and wondrous love
Jesus Christ has shown on us
He died on the Cross of shame
His precious blood has washed us clean.
