Hymn 852

VERSE 1
And when the eight days were all accomplished
They brought forth the child unto the Lord
That he might be blest and be sanctified
As it was preordained
The child, O! Lord, we hand over to Thee
That Thou mayest guard, Thy watch e’er keeping
Over his life on earth.

VERSE 2
The sacred practice this day thus performed
Was in days gone by strictly observed
In like manner this was done to Jesus
The Lord Saviour and King
To Thee, O! Lord, we hand over this child
That all through his life, in thoughts, words and deeds
Should be like unto Thee.

VERSE 3
O! may Thy Spirit, Almighty Father
Now be descended upon this child
And through his forehead infuse Thy power
And awe-inspiring zeal,
That when Satan and all the foes of man
See Thy great Spirit manifest in it,
Should bow their heads to Thee.

VERSE 4
We thank Thee, O! Lord, for peace and blessings
Thou hast showered on all here present
Let thanks and honour, pow’r and dominion
Be Thine for ever more
Heavens and earth are witnesses to Thee,
For The boundless love and wonderful works
Thou performest on earth.

Amen
