VERSE 1
At it came to pass in the morning
The chief priest and the elders
Took council against Jesus
To put Him unto death.
VERSE 2
And they bound and led Him to pilate
Then said Pilate unto Him
"Are Thou the king of the Jews?"
He said, thou sayest it.
VERSE 3
The Jews tormented Jesus, the Lord
They also spat on His face
Saying prophesy to us
Who is He that smote Thee.
VERSE 4
All the sufferings bore by our Saviour
Was for the sake of mankind
Lo! He has overcome death
The tyrant’s chain, broken.
