VERSE 1
In the beginning was the word,
And with God was the very word;
Verily this word too was God
Who did make all things by His word.

VERSE 2
Daily, Thou scatterest Thy words;
Thy word is life and love Thy word;
Grant that on fertile grounds they fall,
Thou didst make all things by the word.

VERSE 3
Dear Lord and Father, Thou art truth,
As Thou at truth, Thy words are true,
Words of redemption to us giv'n,
That by the word we are redeemed.

VERSE 4
Thy word is true and full of pow'r
Burning ever like flames of fire,
Consuming all our sins and filth,
Clearing all our evil desires.

VERSE 5
Thy word like the sun ever shines,
Dispelling darkness from our minds,
Our souls with life, filling anew;
A new life from heav'n descending.
